I did try the platten gap adjustment, bumped it up to 10, and it helped a bit, but maybe not enough to resolve it. I wasn't sure (still not) whether the platten gap adjustment actually adjusts the rollers or the print head. I thought it was the print head. I will work on it, as it's a beautiful paper, I also like the Silver Rag, but the surface of the Innova for me is better. If I can it to work. If not, then I'll switch to the Crane. Problem is I bought rolls of the Innova already, lots of paper to go through. I did frame a print (Amalfi Coast) for someone that turned out fine, so the glass helps, but I still hope to eliminate it if possible. I'll try some more things and see if I can post a solution soon. --- In DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com, "stephengledhill" <stephengledhill@...> wrote: > > Hi Mike, > Lovely paper, particularly the 'Warmtone'. I didn't really experiment as I'm wedded to Silver Rag at > present which seems to have far more robust surface. If it wasn't for the > streaks I'd just prefer the Innova to the Crane. I understand the roller passes over the > paper before the ink is applied, but there seems to be some kind of > matting of the gloss finish by the rollers. It looks like a bit of a > matte finish applied exactly the width of the rollers. They are new > and clean so that doesn't seem to be it, and it doesn't go away with > drying. the denser the image, the more they show up of course. > > I'm wondering if anyone else is having this problem and especially if > anyone has a solution? The finish and print quality of the paper is > beautiful, but the streaking is not. Well > it's a multi purpose lens yes because it let's you do wide angles as well as > zoom at the telephoto end. > > You actually have a lot of zoom with this lens (which allows you to do hand > held outdoors at 135mm) but this is not a lens for macro and potraits. > You'll need a macro lens for this which gives you bokeh (diffused > background). You will have to decide what kind of a macro lens you need > because I understand thet start at 60mm and go all the way to 180 mm or > more. So if you specify what kind of macro photography you're looking at > doing you'll get more help around here. > > You have the choice of going for a Nikon 105mm f2.8 VR macro which is in > the range of $ 1000 plus or go for the very good Tamron 90mm f2.8 Macro > which has some superlative reviews and costs about $ 350. There's Sigma also > but I'm not sure of prices. > > Besides my Nikon 18-135, I have a Nikon 50mm f1.4 prime and a Tamron 17-50 > f2.8 which I am very happy about. The FL-50 is the best flash Olympus makes. That being said, with the dropping prices of the E-500 systems, you can easily spend more on a FL-50 than you would a second E-500 body. I felt I already gave Olympus enough of my money with a E-500 two-lens kit and the 18-180mm lens, so I opted for a Vivitar 285HV (actually two of them) for US$50 each, and haven't regretted that decision at all. Although they are not TTL, they are fairly automatic with a rather accurate sensor on them, so guesstimation works rather well. It all depends on how much you want to spend. -- Chris [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] __._,_.___ Messages in this topic (0) Reply (via web post) | Start a new topic Messages | Files | Photos | Links | Database | Polls Group's site: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/MyOlympus/ Change settings via the Web (Yahoo! Since I'm new to printing, is this a situation I'd make a custom curve to apply before printing? Or could I decrease my monitor's brightness. It is calabrated and I could simply set a new luminance target that's lower than my current 115. What do you think? You could not place someone in a Cola Ad for example, but you can sell shots of anyone you want at an Art Show. This has been litigated several times. BK On 9/18/07, Thom Durfee <digitalpro@thomdurfee.com> wrote: > > The article mentioned seems to be only the opinion of the writer. I > wonder if the author has talked to a actual attorney that deals with > these matters. He makes a good point particularly about model releases > but he is misguided on one point. > > You may sell any photograph of any recognizable person if and only if, > the photo is used in an editorial sense. Other than that you need a > model release. > > Example: > > If you sell a portrait of your granddaughter, you need a model release, > especially if she is not of legal age. In that case you need a model > release signed by her parents. > > If you take photographs of her and her teammates playing soccer down at > the local field and then sell the photo to the local newspaper you do > not need a model release. > > Every photographer who sells or may sell images needs to make a choice > and stick with it. That is, require a model release no matter what or > only when you know that you absolutely need one. > > It is never easy to ask someone on a whim if you can sell a image of > them. This is a skill that takes a great deal of diplomacy and just the > right tactics. Practice makes perfect. No one is perfect. > > As a final note...this is simply my opinion based on what I have learned > over the years. > > Take it for what it is worth. > > -- > Thom Durfee > digitalpro@thomdurfee.com > > www.thomdurfee.com > > "Is it real...or is it Photoshop?" > > [c] 2007 - Thom Durfee > > > > > > ------- Digital Photography Discussions ------------ > List address: digital-photography@yahoogroups.com > Moderator: digital-photography-owner@yahoogroups.com > > Modify or cancel any of your group subscriptions at: > http://groups.yahoo.com/mygroups > > > Yahoo! The refurbished R1800s are about$350 from Epson and $330 on E-Bay (Epson-refurb).As you say, you're essentially up to speed on the differences. They areboth very good printers. It's probably a subjective decision at this point.By the way, I'm experimenting with the R260. Nothing is ready to go yet,but in general, all the approaches I've used with it fail to meet thequality of the R1800 with respect to 100% Eboni printing. I think one does, indeed, get a better printer when the higher prices are paid. On the otherhand, a straight Eboni BO with a driver that can do it looks like it'll be agood entry level bargain for those who do want the most archival B&W at thelowest price. The 260 I have does print a single jet smoother than the1800, but the reduced microbanding may simply be a result of increasedroughness, which is not a good trade for those who want the smoothestmulti-channel carbon printing.Paulwww.PaulRoark.comPlease visit the Group Homepage to check the Files, and other resources as they are often being updated.http://groups.yahoo.com/group/DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrintIf you wish to receive no emails or just a daily digest, or you wish to unsubscribe, please edit your Membership preferences by visiting this same page. Please follow these basic guidelines:- As threads develop, trim off excess portions of earlier messages to keep them short.- Good manners are required at all time. The refurbished R1800s are about> $350 from Epson and $330 on E-Bay (Epson-refurb).Nah, it's not new. Refurbished from Epson. After doing a bit moreresearch here, I've learned that you've had bad experiences buyingrefurbed Epson printers. That surprises me because I've always beenunder the impression that refurbed products get MORE testing than newproducts.Considering your experience, would you still buy a refurb?> The 260 I have does print a single jet smoother than the> 1800, but the reduced microbanding may simply be a result of increased> roughness, which is not a good trade for those who want the smoothest> multi-channel carbon printing.> Since I already have the 220 with MIS inks, I think I definitely wantto give either the R800, R1800 or R2400 a try. In fact, I'm prettyhappy with the results from my 220 and the main reason driving thisnew purchase is the desire for better color prints. Although I don't currently make many prints bigger than 8x10, I thinkit may be worth the extra $100 to reserve that option. Having saidthat, Epson lists refurbed R800s for $140 on their website (not instock currently). To me that sounds like the ultimate low-costarchival option for someone who wants to print B&W and color on 8.5 x11 matte papers. Thanks,ChrisPlease visit the Group Homepage to check the Files, and other resources as they are often being updated.http://groups.yahoo.com/group/DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrintIf you wish to receive no emails or just a daily digest, or you wish to unsubscribe, please edit your Membership preferences by visiting this same page. Please follow these basic guidelines:- As threads develop, trim off excess portions of earlier messages to keep them short.- Good manners are required at all time. I can>> clearly (sharply) see both pictures with either eye>> (monoscopically). However, stereo picture (cross-eyed viewing) is>> fuzzy and I need viewing glasses (for far distance) to see them>> clearly. I know that this is more than strange.Damir,This doesn't seem strange at all to me. If you are short sighted, then full relaxation of your eye's lens produces sharpness somewhere closer than infinity (typically, much closer). Remember also that convergence of the eyes allows the brain to "pre-focus" to the eyes, that's why there is this link between convergence and accomodation (accomodation = focus). Only after pre-focussing, does the mind's eye do the fine focussing, which is based on image processing (for example, analysing edges and making them as sharp as possible). So for you to parallel view a pair, at say arms-length distance, the eyes' convergence tells the brain to focus "infinity" and since you are myopic, that means your "pre-focus" may well be perfect for viewing the pair that is relatively close. When you cross-eye view a pair, the eyes' convergence is telling the brain "close-up view", so your brain tells those eye muscles to squeeze that lens down - prefocussing to a close-up, which means your actual (myopic) sharp focus is now very, very close to your face.Perfectly logical, by my reckoning.>>>> It does not happen to parallel pairs (they remain sharp) or to cross->> pairs viewed VERY VERY CLOSE to the screen.__________________________________________________________©2007 Boris Starosta Stereoscopic Art & 3D Photographyabsolute web contact via <http://public.xdi.org/=starosta>Co-ordinates: 38 deg 3 min 23 sec N 78 deg 29 min 45 sec W Yahoo! For me this means I'll bechoosing almost entirely based upon subjective considerations. The R1800 (with the 100% carbon approach) offers the highest standardin archival B&W on matte papers, as well as great color prints onmatte papers (with Paul's approach) and glossy papers (using Epsoninks). The potential downsides are those that Clayton mentioned:clogging, refilling and rechipping carts and an extra layer ofcomplexity (QTR).The R2400 offers archival quality probably sufficient for mostpeople's needs (I realize that is highly subjective), a streamlinedand intuitive B&W workflow, excellent color and B&W results with bothglossy and matte papers (though you have to swap) with no additionalsoftware, custom curves, tweaking, etc. However, most people say thatcolor glossy results are better on the R1800.Their dimensions and weight are almost exactly the same, and their arecustom paper profiles widely available for both.Tough choice! Please visit the Group Homepage to check the Files, and other resources as they are often being updated.http://groups.yahoo.com/group/DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrintIf you wish to receive no emails or just a daily digest, or you wish to unsubscribe, please edit your Membership preferences by visiting this same page. Please follow these basic guidelines:- As threads develop, trim off excess portions of earlier messages to keep them short.- Good manners are required at all time.
