[photography_beginners] Editing Software for Portraits

Hi Everyone: I have signed up for a portrait class and the instructor prefers we work with Photo Shop Element 3. Erica had posted that she hadn't spent a "penny on photo manipulation software." So I would like to know if that is a "free" download that has the same or close to the same features for portraits as Elements 3. Thanks for the input, Vicki __._,_.___ Messages in this topic (1) Reply (via web post) | Start a new topic Messages | Files | Photos | Database | Members Change settings via the Web (Yahoo! Re: [Digital BW] Innova Fiba Print roller marks

Thanks, Steve. I did try the platten gap adjustment, bumped it up to 10, and it helped a bit, but maybe not enough to resolve it. I wasn't sure (still not) whether the platten gap adjustment actually adjusts the rollers or the print head. I thought it was the print head. I will work on it, as it's a beautiful paper, I also like the Silver Rag, but the surface of the Innova for me is better. If I can it to work. If not, then I'll switch to the Crane. Problem is I bought rolls of the Innova already, lots of paper to go through. I did frame a print (Amalfi Coast) for someone that turned out fine, so the glass helps, but I still hope to eliminate it if possible. I'll try some more things and see if I can post a solution soon. --- In DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com, "stephengledhill" <stephengledhill@...> wrote: > > Hi Mike, > Lovely paper, particularly the 'Warmtone'. Re: [digital-photography] Re: Getting a new Lens

bianca having stated specifically your interest, i don't see that you need to go to a specialty lense. the range in which you're using the macro is sufficient, and depending on the area in which to shoot portraiture, unless you have a studio where you have absolute control over the photo session, the variety in the zoom to cover any possible situation. as a starter, the kit lense that you have will do what you need to do...that's not to say that as you progress you may want to consider not so much the zoom range, but then speicalizing in a specific QUALITY of the lenses to each interest. good luck two k Bianca Valero <biancadv1@hotmail.com> wrote: ALL THE INFORMATION IS GREAT THANK YOU TO EVERY BODY. RE: [MyOlympus] Olympus E-500 External Flash Unit

Chris, Many thanks, I've seen the price of the FL-50 and over here in the UK it's even higher, as I said as a beginner I really don't want to be spending that kind of cash first time. I shall take a look at the Vivitar, It will probably help me learn more than having a fully automatic unit. Thanks again, Phil. The FL-50 is the best flash Olympus makes. That being said, with the dropping prices of the E-500 systems, you can easily spend more on a FL-50 than you would a second E-500 body. I felt I already gave Olympus enough of my money with a E-500 two-lens kit and the 18-180mm lens, so I opted for a Vivitar 285HV (actually two of them) for US$50 each, and haven't regretted that decision at all. Although they are not TTL, they are fairly automatic with a rather accurate sensor on them, so guesstimation works rather well. It all depends on how much you want to spend. -- Chris [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] __._,_.___ Messages in this topic (0) Reply (via web post) | Start a new topic Messages | Files | Photos | Links | Database | Polls Group's site: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/MyOlympus/ Change settings via the Web (Yahoo! Game plan is to start printing up to 8 x 10 at home and using a lab for up to 16 x 20 for display at local shows, festivals, etc and placement in local galleries (of which we have many). Do I need to go to 10+ megapixel SLR to get the image quality I'm used to from my Canon F-1 or is the next step down suitable? I've never stopped seeing the world thru a lense, (my right eye still sees in Kodachrome, my left in Ektachrome) but have only spent a few hours seriously shooting in years. I paid about 1/3 of my college expenses with my cameras, landscapes, portraits, contruction progress work, etc and really want to get the right equipment to get back on track toward my dream of retiring into a life of photography. Any advice or suggestions to get me moving in the right direction would be appreciated 'cause I don't have the time to start researching cold. [Digital BW] trouble with dark prints on a 3800

Hi All, My b/w and color prints are all about 3/4 stop to dark when printed. Since I'm new to printing, is this a situation I'd make a custom curve to apply before printing? Or could I decrease my monitor's brightness. It is calabrated and I could simply set a new luminance target that's lower than my current 115. What do you think? Re: [digital-photography] Getting right with Image Usage

Not quite right: You can sell recognizable images just so long as they are not made to look like they are advertising something.
